Bedrooms hardwood or carpet?

I am looking at getting the nursery ready. I am stuck if to get someone to rip the skirtings off lay down some hardwood flooring and put an area rug in there for the baby which can be easily washed. Or a new carpet that has the chance of being stained with a newborn.
Has anyone gone to wood flooring in their bedroom and regretted it? Or gone from wood to carpet and not liked it?
Trying to think of the cons and pros.

I have had two children and numerous nieces and nephews , grandchildren and other babies and I can honestly say non of them, in the fifty years I’ve been looking after them, have ever stained a bedroom carpet. They have stained the living room carpet but it washes.2

Wood floors upstairs is too noisy (especially with kids charging about) imo.3

Certain types of carpet are promoted as stain resistant. I think they are the synthetic fibre ones as wool carpets can stain quite easily.
Probably though you are over thinking it, as I do not remember babies causing these sorts of issues anyway.0 -

More than likely overthinking it , the first time so guessing the unknown really0 -
I'd caution against having a rug, especially on a wooden floor. At 3am, dim lighting, your fourth time up pacing the floor, it's too likely someone will trip or slip while carrying the baby. Also once the baby becomes mobile, there will eventually be lego, biscuit or something breakable tucked under the edge of a rug waiting to be trodden on. I don't remember any problems with bedroom carpet when mine were growing up but you are right, there will eventually be things spilled somewhere. Most of them will come out if treated in short order (nail varnish doesn't).
The point about the noise from an upstairs wooden floor is also good.
I hope all goes well for you!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

We have a very low pile recycled cotton rug on our polished floorboards. It has a rubber type backing and says it’s washable. We haven’t washed it. But we have cleaned off cat wee and cat sick and it has been fine. https://www.diy.com/departments/bold-teal-blue-pink-persian-style-washable-non-slip-rug-200x290cm/5059815625781_BQ.prd It’s by Kukoon but was cheaper through B&Q. It’s not trippy or slippy.0

I had a washable synthetic carpet in the nursery and never needed to do anything but hoover it. Wouldn't have wood, noisy and harder landing for trips.0

Carpet all the time. It’s warmer, a lot quieter and better sound proof. Plus, should you child fall over, it’s a lot softer landing2006 LBM £28,000+ in debt.

If I go with the carpet option what material do I need for something which is good quality?

I used this company 2 years ago - managed to carpet the stairwell and upstairs of mine and my sisters house for £2000 including a local fitter and cloud 9 underlay.
The remnants section is very good - once hoovered, any flaws are barely visible so perfect for bedrooms.
