Do you always have to declare a cancelled car insurance policy

    Still not correct. If the OP informs the insurer of a change and the insurer says they can't cover them any further then it makes no difference who cancels it. It will not be marked as an adverse cancellation and is not declarable.

    If however they moved, the insurer found out and cancelled due to non disclosure then that would be an adverse cancellation and declarable.

    There is a difference between the two.

    The OP did, they ultimately could have decided not to move house because they are so in love with their current insurers and thus the policy continues. The OP is the one making the ultimate decision here and so if they proceed to move they are effectively the ones cancelling it hence it doesn't need to be declared.
