We use Barclays as a community account.

Mandate updates are done by post.

Cash & cheques are done in the post office

I also use Barclays as a community account for my church.

Like the poster above, cash and cheques are done through the post office.

And for our last mandate change about 2 months ago, I was able to complete the mandate request form online, printed off a copy and posted it to the Barclays mandate team in Leicester.

The new signatory wasn't a Barclays customer so had to go through the ID process but this was all done via the app. She'd to record a short video and photograph her documents. No phone calls or branch visits were necessary. Very smooth and was completed in 10 days which is a record for Barclays.

So it's bad Barclays are closing their only branch in a city the size of Lancaster, it is possible to manage without.
  • The issue that you'll have is that these types of accounts are almost all loss making for the bank concerned as they tend to be provided at below cost/free and they rarely can sell you anything that makes the bank money.

I would suggesting staying put or a Treasurers Account from Lloyds/BOS or Clubs account with Virgin Money.

Newer versions of those products are still around, but they're only for people, not charities/societies.
