Book Virgin 14 day Advance fare ( Standard price £12 each way) add £15 each way for first class worth it for the food & drink, which is included, in my opinion. Must be booked 14 days in advance to get this price, you have to pick which train and it's not flexible but if you know what you want it's the cheapest way into central London from Manchester. I'm a recent convert !;)
If you can't find any really cheap seats on line go to a station and get them to have a look.
Watch out for bus replacement on a bank holiday if they are working on the track it can be a right pain!
Jet 2 fly from Manchester to Gatwick from £33 each way again the earlier you book the cheaper, however the cost of getting into London from Gatwick can be horrendous. Don't forget to add airport taxes too, and parking, and check in times:rolleyes:
I don't know much about the Megabus but if you want the cheapest way they advertise from £1 so it might be worth a look. I amsure someone will come along with a link to their site soon.
Hope this helps.:)0 -

They do flights from £25 each way plus tax if you book online and they fly right into London City airport from both manchester and liverpool.
Only takes 50 minutes so u get more time in london for your money! and the minimum check in time is only 20 minutes, although i like to check in earleir so i can have a good mooch around the shops!
You also get food and drink included in the price!
Good Luck xx0 -

Can also try National Express funfares - start from £1 each way - we use them all the time and is same service as expensive 'normal' tickets (loos on coach) just have to book/pay online, print your ticket and go!
Go to https://www.nationalexpress.com and look in Ways to Save!
Haven't used Megabus but imagine is similar.0 -
Hi All,
The megabus.com services (as run by Stagecoach) from Manchester - London are now all (or should be anyway!), operated using brand new double deck air conditioned coaches, all fitted with toilets. Even if you get an older vehicle, these too should have air con and toilets.
Journey does take around 5 hrs, but it very cheap and IIRC they have a 15 min break or so at Leyton for driver change and to allow the passengers a stretch! There is a booking fee of 50p, so if you are going to make several journies, book them together and just pay the 50p once! Fares start from £1 single, but I think for that journey have a max price of around £10 single.
If you go by National Express, again you'll almost certainly get a modern air-con coach, with toilet, fares again start from £1, but incur no booking fee, though the £1 fares have to be booked a while ahead.
For each, you can book online and print yourself an e-ticket which the driver checks the number of when you board, so no need to wait for tickets through the post.
Cheers

I support Nearlyrich in his suggestion of going 1st class on VIRGIN Trains. The ticket is called VIRGIN Value 1st and for a return of £54 you have to book 14 days or more in advance. They have had this fare since September last year and it is good value. If you know people travelling to London on business tell them of this ticket.
If you equate what you get against the prices charged in the on train shop for the same thing you do get more than £15 in value (the on board mag has the prices no need to leave your seat). If you are going for along weekend this is a good treat. Remember only Monday to Friday do you get the at seat service. I always go to London friday night and enjoy my evening meal on the train and return Monday morning taking the morning off and going straight into work at lunchtime.
Remember the 1st class lounge at Euston is available for your use and it is free (except achoholic drinks) you can even have a shower to freshen up. No paying the concourse price of 20p to use the toilet.
Visit the VIRGIN Trains WEB site to see what 1st class passengers get on board and also at the station.
For a good central London hotel https://www.londontown.com July and August are slwo months for the big 5* hotels as their clientel are away on holiday so they offer good bargains and you could touch lucky. One such offer at the moment is a 5* single room in Mayfair for £98 per night inc. VAT midweek.
Try the Holiday Inn Mayfair or the Chesterfield Mayfair (via londontown.com)0
