Asking for a friend
They have made a payment for their Amex card to the correct Amex sort code and account number but with an incorrect reference field (long card number). I have said that the money is likely to bounce back but was wondering if anyone could confirm this?
Story is they set up a new payee to Amex using the correct sort code account number and triple checked the card number in the reference field. They then scrolled down to the amount field and when they did this the previous fields moved up and we're no longer visible
They clicked in the amount field to type in 200 for 200 pounds and nothing happened. They clicked again and this time were able to type in 200 - of course what had happened is unknown to them an extra 200 had been added into the reference field which was not visible because it had been scrolled away

Too late now but for the future, your friend should be initiating the payment from inside the Amex app. That way, they don't need to enter any AMEX payee information, as AMEX take care of all of this.
The payment that was sent incorrectly is likely to go into a suspense account at AMEX. Your friend should contact AMEX to try and resolve it with them.
