Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Does it have to be an EV? Just as an example we bought a Diesel hatchback last year for £1,700. Does 61mpg, road tax is £20. Even if you have a fancy EV charger and super duper tariff, the cost saving on 1,000 miles won't go far towards paying for a more expensive car.1

"Raiding" the ISA to pay off high interest debt might be the correct tactic, it depends on the interest rates but the debt is almost certainly costing much more than the ISA is earning. The fact it's reached that stage may show a lack of awareness though.Nasqueron said:
If you're having to raid an ISA for cash to cover debt, isn't that a reality check your finance life is unsustainable?
Presumably nobody would take out an overdraft costing say 30% in order to pay into an ISA paying maybe 5%. Leaving the OD running, and money in the ISA is exactly the same.1 -
I agree but OP is doing it because of their unsustainable budget and addiction to credit. They wouldn't need to raid the ISA if they stopped taking out credit. E.g. you have a finance on windows (8%), you pay for a new kitchen to be fitted; you have an ipad and Macbook but want to buy a gaming laptop on top of your Xbox and PS5; you have lost 50% of your work hours and need benefits but you want to get credit to replace an EV on finance with another EV on finance even though your current EV does everything you needQyburn said:

Such rational and conventional thinking doesn't apply on these threads!Qyburn said:Presumably nobody would take out an overdraft costing say 30% in order to pay into an ISA paying maybe 5%. Leaving the OD running, and money in the ISA is exactly the same.

Prob EV which if succesful could be my last vehicle, I appreciate there are unbeleivable ICE offers.Qyburn said:Does it have to be an EV? I viewed some Audi's in recent weeks, <15k -almost impossible in earlier years.
I had owned 2 Diesels after passing test, that 'fancy' ev charger equates to most recent charging cable, I use c.p.s. public chargers.
What your vehicle does to the gallon my ev does in total winter 'Range' 60's miles is not unusual before re charge.
thanks until next year, already updating bedroom heater choice vie use home improvements.
