giving away a playstation to charity

Hello

Not sure if this would be the best forum so please place me in the right place!!

Basically Ive been clearing out cupboards etc and have found an old playstation one, from looking at ebay etc its not worth anything, so i was thinking about giving it away but i really want it to go somewhere where its needed and would be appreciated, bearing in mind most kids only like the latest computers and this one is years old!!

Any recommendations much appreciated, im in bristol if anyone can recommend anything local

Happy new year

Tux

  • You could always ask the local hospital.. i just bought a Wii, so i was going to give away my PS1 to my oh's hospital
  • yeh i was thinking along the lines of hospitals wondered if anyone knew of any other types of places aswell? I was thinking maybe hospitals would already have ps1s and maybe giving it to a childrens home or something

i woulds probably give it to a charity shop tbh.
most likely hospitals and the like would need to get its electrics checked before use.
  • yeah, and the games arent as easily available now - its easier for hospitals to have a load of similar consoles so the games can be easily shared and swapped between kids! why not freecycle it? to be honest, PS1's are a bit old hat for many kids considering the ps2 will have been around for all or most of their lives, and we are now on the ps3... if you freecylcle it, at least it will go to someone who wants it, rather than being unappreciated/unused!

I worked at a hospital and several years ago we got rid of all the old ps1's as they were unused and we had plently of later consoles...
  • thanks what i was thinking mate, i thought most kids in hospital wouldnt even know what a ps1 was!!! free cycle or som sort of childrens home is best! thanks for the advice

TBH, a children's home is as likely not to want it as a hospital: and for the same reasons. Plus, finding a children's home isn't a trivial matter, with the majority of children being fostered within families if they can't live with their own.

You could see if a Charity Shop will take it, but some of the smaller ones won't take electrical items because of the need to get them checked out first. Not sure if Emmaus or the SOFA Project would be interested?

If you freecycle it you may find it snapped up by someone who really wants it, or by someone who enjoys seeing how things work ... Either way, it should go to someone who WANTS it, for whatever reason!

Hello, Post Pals www.postpals.co.uk lends Playstations out to seriously ill children, one child has one on long term loan from PP as she has times when she has to spend a lot of time in bed on oxygen, another family also have one long term from PP as all 4 of their boys needed a bone marrow transplant and the hospitals can't guarantee a child one :)
