Travelling to China - money help - which credit /debit cards
"One thing to be aware of is the tea house scam. It happened to me a
couple of times where people would come to you and ask if you want to
go for tea because they would like to practice their English. Just
decline these offers politely as it's a scam (Google it for more info). "
When we visited China a few years ago our tour guide warned about a potential scam when buying from some street merchants with cash - best to avoid offering larger demonination currency for purchases.
The con was for the trader to take the note into his waist cash bag - then claim he couldn't change that bill and offer it back - having quickly switched it by sleight of hand for a fake note from inside the money pouch.
The guide recommended keeping a record of larger note serials in case of any such ploys.
We only had small notes so never had any problems.
