You could always attempt to take the council to small claims. No idea if you would actually be successful.0

Interestingly, the travel insurer replied just now with this after I queried on the unforeseen circumstances:
'Good afternoon,I am sorry to hear about that. That is not something that would be covered by any of our policies. Furthermore, I am not aware of any insurer that would cover such instance':beer:0 -

I see that the thread title says the issue is now settled. It would be helpful to others to know how it was settled, even if it's not the settlement you hoped for.2 -
The insurance states that it covers if 'You or your travel companion have leave withdrawn'. This is effectively what has happenned so perhaps worth pursuing that angle i.e. that by the council changing the holiday dates they have effectively withdrawn your wifes leave.
Do they know that your wife is a teacher and that you are looking to make a claim because the term dates don't align anymore so she cannot go as employer will not allow them versus someone for whom the term dates don't align but they may be able to continue to go.
Perhaps the council would be able to help by providing a supporting statement to the effect that the change of school holidays means that your wifes leave is withdrawn for the original week to be replaced with the new week.0 -

You or your travel companion have leave withdrawn and are a member of the Armed Forces (including reserves and territorial), Emergency Services, medical or nursing professions (in the public sector) or Senior employees of CFY Direct 10/2023 DA1 30 the Government •

Hi all. Sorry, I work shifts and have very odd sleeping patterns. Settled as per my previous post: one to take on the chin! Mrs not the type to take a week off from work. Note: I exhausted all the methods of communication with the council. Head of admissions and head of education got back to me with an apology. Things happen for a reason. Time to move on. I have put in a request to retract the LGO query. Blown away and hugely appreciate the immense know-how and willingness to help tat you guys have shown. A big, 'thank you'.:beer:3
