Decent Wireless Burgular Home Security Systems

Looking at one after being burgled unfortunately :(

Which ones would you recommend from experience please? There are obviously a lot on the market and I am unsure whether to 'cheap out' or go all out.  :|

Thank you in advance

Fitted loads of basic Yale wireless, always cost in for 2 or 3 remote control fobs - good offers on Yale's own site.
The basic system is the one to go for, to arm, disarm, reset or anything else you just poress a button on the remote. You don't need to consult the manual to remember how to set or unset, or indeed re-set if you set it off. They don't false alarm. They don't go wrong.

Fitted these to dozens of properties when renovating and never had a break in, empty house full of tools etc. Invariably fitted one at a neighbors house every time we have renovated when they see how neat and simple they are,

Yale YES-ALARMKIT HSA Essentials Alarm Kit - 5 Piece
Yale HSA Essentials Burglar Alarm Kit
Alarm £115 at screwfix, I've picked em up for about £80 - £90 in the past

You can add more contacts, PIR's and as I said - Keyfobs £15 at screwfix
Yale HSA6060 Remote Control Alarm Key Fob

If you want to go a bit further up the range than a Yale - depending on the flexibility you might want and your budget - then I can recommend the Hikvision AX Pro range - which if you happen to also install CCTV cameras at some point will integrate. App based arm disarm, keyfob remote, tag reader or good old fashioned pin pad to turn it on and off. Plenty of options on detectors, sounders and accessories, and good battery life. Also has the ability to run with a sim-card - so that if your internet goes down and your power goes off - the alarm still works, and transmits any activations by sending you a text and calling you. (Which when I trigger it accidentally as I've got mine set to auto-arm and auto-disarm at certain times - and I forget and wander past the sensor - certainly wakes me up when my phone goes crazy).

  • I am in a similar situation to OP, but have an existing wired system (under contract) which I would like to replace with a modern system that uses exiting wiring AND can be extended wirelessly.

Any suggestions for that, but ALSO I would like somebody to remove the old and install new system. How do I find the person to do that? The specialised alarm companies seem to want to install their (over complex) systems, with maintenance contacts etc.

I wouldn't bother using existing wiring and adding wireless bits - just go full wireless - old cables have tendencies to age and create system faults. Eliminate potential future headaches by doing away with the old system completely. If you try and mix and match you'll end up with more pain trying to work out what's gone wrong further down the line.

I'd agree with that, the reed's in magnetic contacts have a limited life too, systems start to false activate or refuse to set as they get old.

  • Ended up going with Simplisafe system. Spoke to them in great length today and they pretty good impression. The trustpilot reviews look good too. Lets see how it goes!

Thank you to all for responding to my post :)

I just have movement detectors, and I would rather not be up a ladder changing batteries every couple of years. Besides, I could install new, wired sensors if needed.

That would still mean you had old cables, although you haven't mentioned the age of your system. I've had the AXPro installed for 3 years - all my sensor batteries are still showing 100%. I don't think you'd be up and down the ladder every 6 months. Technology is improving all the time. But if you want to stick with old tech - I'm sure it'll be ok too.

I have a simplisafe system mostly for my OH for peace of mind.  She's deaf and I work shifts so she can feel bit vulnerable when she is home overnight by herself.

We have indoor and outdoor cameras plus all the usual sensors.  Picked up a doorbell camera too when it was released only to discover it requires existing power from your old doorbell camera to work so we have yet to wire it in.

The system is as easy and anything to set up and works really well although we found out today the cameras can occasionally be set off by a Roomba!  had them ring me today to say the alarm was going off and they could see that it was trundling around.

I had to google Roomba, I thought it must be a rare south Americal rodent or something!
