Removing car stereo

Hi, I want to remove the stereo from my VW Transporter. When I bought it, it already has a Pioneer unit added to it. It currently has an attachment lead for an Android phone but I have switched to an iPhone and want to change the cable.
I bought these car stereo removal tools but they don't seem to get any purchase when I insert them.
