Affected by redundancy with 50k in savings and mortgages - can you ask for benefits?

Hello,
the subject says it and this might appear like a stupid question - but if you have 50k in savings but with a mortgage and bills etc, what kind of benefits can you be eligible for? I know for the mortgage you can ask for a temporary interest only but - how about council tax or other? I understand that if you have 6k in savings you can't - for instance - get universal credit? Anything helps.
Thanks.

You can get Contributions based JSa for 6 months (as long as you've had 2 years of contributions I think) It's a pain to claim but you are entitled to it.
Any other benefits I think you need to have less than £16k in savings.0 -
For UC it's £16K upper limit that means you can't claim. Between £6k-£16k there is a deduction from UC,Zak64 said:Hello,

If you could pay towards your mortgage that brings capital below £16k then you could claim UC

Youd be expected to use your savings until it is under £16K and at that point you can apply for UC, however the lower threshold is £6K so therefore any claim will have a reduction on it of £4.35 per £250.
You can claim JSA as mentioned above, which is £84.80 a week.Proud to have dealt with our debtsStarting debt 2005 £65.7K.
