What kind of tradesman to repair exterior door frame?

What kind of tradesman would I need to get a quote from for the following job:

*strip flaking paint from an exterior wooden door, and repaint
*repair/replace the rotting wooden door frame

Should I look for a decorator (do they do woodwork)? or carpenter (do they generally do stripping and painting)?

Judging by the state of the frame it's probably not a job for a handy man - either needs completely replacing, or in a few places (doorstep) new wood splicing in.

By the sounds of it, a carpenter.
But if the whole frame is replaced, Building Regulations kick in, and you should be getting the work signed off. I know, sounds daft.... But if you are replacing the frame, changing the door as part of a total package might be worthwhile. Better thermal performance & a reduction in cold draughts.

Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

I think for a decent job you’ll need to get a carpenter to replace the frame as they’ll understand how it’s attached, where to cut it to remove it cleanly. They might paint it for you, but probably cheaper to get a local handyman to do the painting.
  • These are 2 different trades, as implied by others: first get the woodworker to fix your frame; when that work is done get a painter. Obviously if the woodworker is willing they might paint your door, but as FreeBear says you could have a modern insulated door and frame. Reckon these come pre-finished, in a colour of your choice, no painting required. Example https://www.samsondoors.co.uk/thermal-insulated-entrance-doors
These doors & frames are factory made to standard sizes so if you decide to "invest' in the latest energy efficient door & frame, check your frame/opening size matches the "standard sizes". As far as I know these insulated doors can't be cut down although if your opening is slightly larger then you could consider packing out the frame - within reason!
