Planning to switch to combi-boiler + solar panels

  • Frankly, no form of winter heating is a good match to solar panels.  The only way you might make it work is to have a much larger array of panels than most people have, export a lot of electricity at 15p per kWh (or better if you can) in summer and use the revenue to cover your winter heating costs.  This requires that you get permission from your DNO, which might not be forthcoming.

Our 5.25kWp of panels has managed to generate enough income to cover all our energy bills for the almost 2 years since install, so it doesn't need a massive array.

OK, there's been the government £400, savings sessions credits  and 4 x £50 referrals added during that time but still expecting to be around £300-£400 in credit by the end of March when the full 2 years is up.
