If you are not bothered about brands, then you can definitely get cheaper than an ipod.

Do you know what capacity you would want? x
    Gone ... or have I?

Capacity? Erm, how many songs I would like it to hold?
I'm flexible about that, my friends device holds 1000 tracks but I would like at least double that, if not more. It all depends on price really.
Not bothered about brands in the slightest, I just want the music to sound really good.
  • Have just got my daughter a creative zen 4gb, it was only £79.99 reserve on line and pick up in store in comet (£99.99 in store), this is a thing of beauty. Everything about it is perfect, so easy to download to, no sync probs with the video and superb sound. Go to the creative web site and take a proper look, but I can highly recommend this. Has a SD card slot so easily expandable.

4gb? Means nothing to me, I wish I understood some of the jargon. £79.99 sounds like a reasonable price, I'm looking at spending under £100.

If you just want music I would say an ipod shuffle at £50 they are pretty funky, look good, easy to use, small and the battery is rechargeable.
Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!

Basically I just want music, I don't need anything fancy. What I am interested in is that the sound is really good. I'm not bothered about video or anything like that. Just that it is very easy to use.
I do like one that my housemate has got, you see the tracks and can go to the albums or individual tracks really easily but he paid almost double what I am prepared to pay so that one is definitely out. I can't even remember what one it was, will have to ask.

I have been told to go on ebay for a decent deal but am wary as I know a few people who have had Ipods/cameras stolen and I would hate the thought that I was buying something stolen.
I saw in the paper the other day that there was a 4gb MP3 player for £60, is that a reasonable deal? Also an 8gb MP3 player for £99.99.

Problem with the shuffle is lack of display so you cant navigate around it easily.

I have a creative muvo (not sure if it is made anymore) and it has an fm radio, which you can record from, voice recorder, good adjustable eq, and a scrolling display. It is also recognised as an external drive so I can use it to transport other files, documents for example. It is all drag and drop technology and is miles easier to use than an ipod.

I also have a nano which looks lovely and is fine in the gym but to be honest I have no real love for it, possibly because of the poor interface with a pc (i.e iTunes)
If you pc loses all your music, because of a crash or similar it is a right pain to get the stuff back off the ipod onto the pc.

These guys are not the cheapest but will give you some idea of what is out there.

You're right, those prices aren't cheap at all! :)
