Estimated Gas bill for 12 months after supplier failed to read the reading on the smart Gas metre

Hi,
The Supplier sent me a estimated gas for the last 12 months even I submitted the actual gas meter reading in Dec 2023. Looking at the gas bill and each gas unit price changes they estimated my usage for that period. Do I need pay for that estimated bill or I can tell the supplier you can only charge the gas unit price for the whole usage on the date when I submitted the gas meter reading?

Yes.
Always good practice to send in monthly readings if they aren't being sent automatically.

I would raise.a complaint, issue them with the meter reading as of today with proof by the way of a photograph. Ask them to rebill, ask them to sort out your smart meter communication errors and give them 8 weeks to sort it all out and if unsatisfactory refer to the ombudsman service.

It depends what you mean by estimated, if you submitted a reading on 27th December, but the end of the billing period was 31st December then they will estimate the usage at the end of the billing period. Yes, you need to pay it, you do not get decide billing periods. You seem to be trying to be oddly combative with them for no reason, which is never likely to end well.steven_ling said:Hi,

No, you can't insist on them using the gas unit price for the date you gave them a meter reading for the whole 12 months, they are entitled to estimate your usage and charge the correct unit price for each period where there was a price change.steven_ling said:Hi,
