WeBuyAnyCar

My 85 year old mum lost her licence due to ill health. Finally came to sell her Fiesta. No luck privately but WeBuyAnyCar offered a decent £6500 which reduced to £5750 because if some minor scratches and chips. After sharing all (many) of  the various documents requested the  deal was done (and I signed) and payment options discussed. I did think it would be an automatic  immediate BACs but was told that BACs would be extra (£40 I think). A 3 day BACs was free of charge so went for that and the car was left.

A couple of days later I got a message from WeBuyAnyCar to say that payment would be delayed unless I provided more information (various, including my mums birth cert) .

Thing is that I'm 50 miles away and won't be visiting  for a week or two. I haven't even been given the sales receipt for the car so feel vulnerable.  Very annoyed that WeBuyAnyCar have my elderly mums car and are choosing to delay payment to her because they want something that they didn't ask for at the time of the sale. It's simply not OK.

Anyone had this happen or have any advice?

Why do they need sight of her birth certificate? I’ve never had dealings with WBAC but would have thought they’d only be concerned with ownership of the car so provided they could be produced what’s the problem?

I suspect the issue is that you signed the paperwork, but it is your mum's car, they need to verify your mum is actually involved, not a family member selling a car they do not own.
  • The only problem is asking for additional information after the time of sale when payment had been promised.  It's a 100 mile round trip for me to find it. I don't think it's ethical to delay payment when every piece of information requested at the time of sale has been provided.

You have 2 choices, provide what they want or go get the car back. Either way you need to visit the premises again.

Surprised they didn't ask for any ID originally for AML purposes. Was yiur mum even with you when you took the car?

Ethical or not, People do make mistakes and they are not going to pay you/your mum until you provide what they ask for

can you send it electronically ?

If you can’t and it is definitely their mistake you could ask for fuel contribution for the 100 mile round trip

There is no requirement for a Birth Certificate within their published process for selling a car when the owner has passed away.

She didn't pass away,it was ill health so ID most likely needed.

Do you not have a local WBAC who you could give a copy of the documents?
