Hi,
My daughter just passed her test last week and needs are car for Uni and her job. She is an 18yr old Med Student. We are looking at a 2nd Hand Aygo about £7-8k . Best price we can find for insurance through confused.com is £1500 per year, that’s with adding both parents as named drivers. Any tips for bringing this down, some quotes have been over £3k!
Thanks

Congrats on passing the test! Guess the insurance reflects the risk - while useful for med course car is not essential and parking at most places is a nightmare.
Don;t know what you can specifically do - there are some cars that are more expensive than others though I as a wrinkly am insuring an Aygo for £200 so it can't be too bad. Clearly being 18 is the problem DS was new driver in late 20s and insurance was about £500 with parents both named.

You have done the main trick of adding other drivers, the only other option is to try different vehicle models, ages, etc, maybe some 'unfashionable' vehicles. But I doubt you'll get it much lower, £1500 sounds a good price for her age tbh,2

That price sounds fairly good for an 18 year oldMy first insurance policy 30 odd years ago when I passed my test was £800.1

The Aygo (and models based on it) are popular with first time drivers and as such often more costly to insure than other cars. But in the current market that isn't a bad price.
You may be able to find other cars are less to insure even if higher insurance groups.
Is she communing to uni daily? If so you need to make sure you have cover for that, its not just workplaces that need the cover.
If she is staying away, where have you used as the overnight location? How much of the year is she away vs at home as that can depend on where that location should be declared as. It can be that they are home for more than 50% of the year in some courses, although medical sciences that may not be the case and it needs to be wherever it will be kept for uni accommodation.
