Dont ask MBNA for help!

I recently asked MBNA if there was any way that they could help my financial situation. They responded by putting up my interest rate from 17.9% t0 23.7%.

I'm desperate now to put that debt onto a cheaper card.

Is it normal for a credit card company to do this? I'm sick of being stung.

2008 has got to be the year that I conquer my debts or at least inflict a few nasty wounds to them.

mbna are one of the worst companies i've dealt with. i went into a debt plan with them about 4yrs ago with a 2.5k balance. I've been paying it off monthly and never defaulted but regularly as clockwork i get letters informing me my apr is going up. It seems the more you pay off and the more you reduce your balance the more frequent the letters:mad:

i had a virgin credit card with MBNA and when my 0% rate expired i asked them if they could reduce my rate back to zero in the interests of keeping me with them. It was at 23.9% but the guy on the phone said they couldn't do that for existing balances. Without any questions or pleading he said that they could reduce it though.
It went from 23.9% to 13.9% and i received a letter a few days later to confirm it.

I can only assume that your circumstances were very different from mine hence the different treatment.
