Errr..you dont mean ter say that you've got more books than me have you - squeezed into Shoebox Towers somewheres (errr...hanging from the ceiling in hammocks maybes?:D:rotfl:). 'Tis all I can do to count the number of bookshelves. It would take a while to count the number of books on them - and I've just seen another one I shall be scouting-round on Amazon to find...:rotfl:
I have a very large public library 10 minutes walk away and they are shelving "my" books for me.* Plus kid brother is online bookseller so he turns my overflow into hard cash. Just counted the books I have at present; 24 keepers, mainly reference, a few philosophical, plus 7 library books and around two dozen awaiting reading before going to Bruv to be sold.
With my voracious, omnivorous reading habits, the ideal home for me would be a small apartment attached to a large library, with a slavey to fetch me tea and chocolate at regular interval.;)
* Saves me a fortune on rent for a bigger home plus I don't have to dust them.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

It used to be because I remember reading about people in the sixties and seventies who were convinced that nuclear armageddon was imminent and had supplies of them. Don't know if they are POM (prescription only medication).

You can if you search on line. But guess what America seems to be out of stock - panic buying!C.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z Able Archer0

Much more MSE would be - check out what is likely Ground Zero (ie the point at which "the s*** has hit the fan") and make sure you are right there ...problem solved. Instant end of problem - and its free...:rotfl:0

Wouldn't ordinary iodine supplements work? I read that because of high iodine levels in the typical Japanese diet they will have a little protection already. I don't think it's worth worrying about personally, but my vegan multivitamin I take has some in anyway so maybe I'm "safe"!0 -
Ordinary supplements would work but you would have to take them in excess...the idea is to saturate the thyroid with non radioactive iodine which then gets excreted as you don't need it and prevents the thyroid taking up the radioactive iodine.
I know it sounds like a mad question, but I am considering the children...
I have found it online, but when it comes down to it, I haven't found it anywhere where they can actually ship it to me...and that was before the panic, I expect. Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -
My goodness. TBH I've never been that cautious.
I do have lots of tinned, dried stuff etc. UHT milk and far too much. But that is for my convenience and ease of money budgeting. I prefer to buy in bulk once than bit by bit.
I grew up in a village with lots of power cuts and wind damage (top of a hill at the head of a valley). I also have accquired a lot of additional skills from historical hobbies. I think to be completely honest if you are truely that concerned and are wanting to do maximise your survival/thrival chances then initially you should be looking at your location.
Sandbags are only partially useful, not living in properties built on flood plains etc would be my first choice (and is exactly what I do - my cousin on the other hand does live in a low lying place and has terrible mist/fog/damp air to tolerate).
Look at local 'dangers'. For some living near fuel depots/refineries, or power stations, chemical production plants. Then decide if you want to live there.
All the best will in the world with tins/water etc are completely useless if things really go T*ts up, because the chances are you won't be near the box/bag etc. You could as easily be at work/school/travelling/in a loo or a 1001 other places that wouldn't provide easy access to your 'stash'.
Knowledge is really the only thing that can be truly relied on to be with you at all times.
Life is far too short to live in fear of things. One guarentee in life is that we will all die and for most of us it will not where, when or how we would prefer.
Sorry guys but I am the BIGGEST sceptic of such things. Can you tell?Put the kettle on.0
