Shurgard Storage - Paying more than advertised on website?

Hey all,
I rent a storage unit just down the road at Shurgard. I saw that they raised the price of the unit a while ago whilst it was advertisd much cheaper online. I tried to negotiate but I was very tired that day and they somehow talked me out of it saying the price was correct to the website which was BS!
So looking today and they are advertising the same unit for £40 less a month. Is it worth me just signing up to a new Unit and cancelling the current one, then just move my stuff over to this one? Would that would with the same name, bank and address details?

I guess you could do that if you want - unless perhaps there's a condition in their t&cs that says something like "New customers only".
But even then, they're probably not legally obliged to accept your offer to rent another unit for £40 per month less, if they don't want to.
Are there any "notice" conditions or "minimum contract period" conditions for your current unit?
And/or you could try phoning them to say what you're planning to do, and see if they'll offer a different solution (like reducing the cost of your current unit), to save them admin work and save you hassle - and improve customer relations.

Thanks eddddy. I've not read the contract as I just don't have the time to deal with it right now, thats how people get complacent with this sort of thing. But you're right! I should ring them and see what they say about it. If not I can always open a new account in my partners name and bank details
I think the only reason they charge some people like me more is if you have had the unit for a long period. They hook you in with lower prices.0 -
Think a lot of companies catch those who dont read contracts before signing up.
Nearly got caught myself this week whilst negotiating a new phone deal. Good job I had written down what each company was offering.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0 -
You will have to read the T&Cs you signed up to.* what was the agreed price?* what are the cancellation restrictions or allowances?Companies often change their prices and /or offer different prices to new customers, or to customers who sign up for longer contracts. What matters is what you agree to.0

They usually offer an introductory price for so many weeks and then it goes up to the 'normal' price. I dare say if you look at the website you will find all the details. There is also insurance to pay which isn't included in the advertised price.I used Shurgard when I was between moves, found them very good especially towards the end when I wanted a smaller unit for a while, no quibbles, changed it over there and then and refunded me for the month on my larger unit which I didn't expect.0

Are the advertised units smaller than the one you have? As NameUnavailable says, different units within the same facility get different pricing, and you often get a discount for booking 6 or 12month contracts rather than paying by the month - that's the way our storage place works.
