Plywood Thickness for Shelves?

Add some baton's to the underside of the shelves, glue/screw/dowel the shelf into the sides and also glue/screw/dowel the 20mm or 30mm
support and a 12mm shelf will hold your weight.
Small loss in shelf height but massive strength gains fo minimal cost.
This is the underside of a shelf I will be making soon, 18mm MDF, If I use the same MDF offcuts for the support each shelf will hold 80 - 100kg.
Using cheap baton timber it will carry more than 150kg. I built a cupboard over the stairs using that design only 12mm board and 32mm
supports it was strong enough for me to sit on it and paint the walls.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...1 -

It's a good alternative.0 -
Hmm, that’s just sparked an idea!
I could effectively make your shelf construction, fixing into the sides of the carcass. Maybe dowels not necessary – maybe just screws?
But then, add a 6mm panel underneath, pinning to the bottom, so as to hide the battens!0 -
