As a side question, does anyone know what happened to the poster Alice_Holt, who made the second post in this thread? I'd previously noticed that the poster was no longer active and can see from their profile that they last posted on 22 November 2024 and last visited the MSE forums while logged in on 1 December 2024.

The poster was a prolific and regular poster and provided lots of good advice over the years. I'm curious what became of the poster. Hopefully they just decided to stop posting but when a poster vanishes without trace it reminds me of the equally prolific, regular and helpful poster calcotti who sadly most likely passed about 3 years ago.

Can't answer your question, what has surprised me is how quiet this forum now is. Even the move from IR ESA to UC didn't generate that much traffic considering how many were moved.
The first page of the forum has a time-span of over two weeks
I picked a random page 500 from 2020 and that date range is just 3 days!

People get their information from Facebook and AI. Yes these sources may well be wrong in many cases, but people are becoming comfortable with asking AI for answers.

I did a bit of research and most of the AI tools available will not use forum content. They will only use information from official sources and this can include articles written by the MSE team, but not from forum pages.

Forums like this will gradually become redundant, unless the sites running them use the content as a basis for their officially published articles. E.g. top 10 issues raised this month in our benefits forum. It is the official articles that generate AI content and drive traffic to sites.
