Shed roof

I'm building a shed. 10x12'. Roof is 22 degrees. Wall frames are 3x2, clad in british cedar featheredge. Roof frames are 2x4, with a plywood gusset at the apex and birdsmouth resting on double top-plate. All on 60cm centres. Roof covering wil be tapco slates on top of membrane and 1×2 batten. Should I use osb board on top of the roof trusses or just batten and tile?

Sounds like a fab shed, Going to last years. I'd do the OSB - you can get it with a bitumin type outer face which would be perfect for any ingress of drips from the tiles if you wanted to drop the membrane. Post a pic! Long time since I made a shed, It still looks great whereas the shop bought ones deteriorate much faster.

  • Thanks for your my reply, every example I've seen of shed builds does have some sort of roof boarding...I'm just concerned that I'm adding probably an extra 90kg to the weight of the roof and hence whether I'm better with or without!?

I've just had a small wooden framed extension built, so not identical to you,  but the architect specified tapco tiles with just a membrane & battens underneath. No  problems so far and after some particularly bad weather too. I've walked on them since  to clean the windows and do some painting with no problems.
I've always  presumed that OSB etc was used to compensate for the  usual choice of bitumen felt which isn't as durable ?
