I looked at Gap ins when getting my last new car, As. How many claims have I had in the last years... None. OK that £700 saved for something else...
    Life in the slow lane
  • I took out Gap cover for 5 years, in my particular case if my car had been written off after my brush with a bus.
I would have been 20k better off.
My policy was a like for like replacement.
3 month old 5008 with one previous owner Peugeot them self and 8 miles on the clock.
I paid £14,350 for the car as was outgoing model.
Three years later the replacement would have cost 35k at least.
Cost was £200 in 2016. Total gap.

I know this is an old post but we had a 3 year old car purchase insured via Gap Insurance.  My partner drove out of a junction on a grey November day not noticing a speeding grey car with no lights on and car was written off.

That was during Covid and as prices for cars increased we actually did not need to use the GAP Insurance (I fought the used valuation which in hindsight should have let Gap Insurance do that) and all we actually used policy for was return of excess paid.

Being Covid era the replacement was difficult to source due to supply and demand and was higher cost.  Needless to say we got Gap Insurance on that seeing as Market Place was inflated at the time.  3.5 years later someone stole from outside our house and there was a £7.8k difference between market value and invoice value.

So GAP Insurance has been very useful both times and I would do again when we get this stolen car replaced.  I used Gapinsurance.co.uk both times as received forum discount from a car forum I use.  However they do not offer a product if buying from a Private Seller so I will have to look elsewhere this time as that is the purchase route I am taking.

I've just posted about my GAP question in the Insurance categories as couldn't find a category for GAP then discovered this. I've had a good experience with GAP also. But after having to buy a cheaper slightly older car due to my previous no fault right off I'm finding it difficult to find a recommend provider who will insure for GAP for a  car 6 years of age. Any recommendations and or advice gratefully received.
