What is WeChat?

I've never heard of this nor have an account but got a txt saying - use this code to log into your account. Is someone who has my mobile number trying to steal my identity? I've not inadvertently downloaded the app or signed up.

WeChat is a messaging (and other stuff) app that is very popular in China (about one billion users) , India and other places. 

One of the things it can do is send small amounts of  money (like the PayPal app) and so it's often used by people in these countries without access to banking facilities. To join you have to get a "reference" from an existing user who must verify you by supplying a code. 

I think someone must have put your number in by mistake. I'd just ignore the message.

I personally would keep well away and delete the text

Thanks PHK. I've not opened the message. It might be linked to the strange chinese language voice messages I used to get.
