TFC And self assessment

Hi all,

my wife is about to complete her first SA and was just wondering if the eligibility threshold is based on ‘turnover’  on which we would be eligible or ‘profit’ whereby which we would be ineligible.

If the latter is there any scope to understate the expenses and just absorb them as personal expenses so that we are eligible? It all seems a bit backwards if that’s the case.

Thanks.

    Eligible for what?

if it is to report your self assessment to HMRC, ifit is if your turnover  is over £1000.
  • Sorry I wasn’t clear, to be eligible for tax free childcare/30 hours free childcare. You need to earn the equivalent of minimum wage which she does but that’s prior to business expenses.

I’m not sure which figure they use to confirm eligibility.
