This reminds me of a famous anecdote: Jeff Bezos presented his business plan to make Amazon grow to a bunch of students at Harvard Business School in 1997. After listening to his presentation most of the feedback was that it would never work and he should sell his business to an established retailer, failing that Amazon would go bust.

Amazon grew to the size it is now because it was the right idea at the right time. If we're looking for the next Amazon (or the next Microsoft, or the next Google, etc...) then it won't be a company that behaves in exactly the same way as its successful predecessors.
If you've ever talked to the individuals who pay for courses at HBS you'll know that they aren't necessarily the most imaginative people or the brightest sparks on the planet. But I wish those HBS students had been right as Amazon is one company that I loathe and avoid even though it often takes some effort.
And so we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

I don’t think the answer is just "add more servers when traffic goes up." That’s a pretty easy way to burn money for no reason. The bigger thing is figuring out what actually needs more resources and what’s just sitting there doing nothing.

That’s the part I use Cast AI for. I can see what the workloads are using without constantly tweaking resources by hand, and it also handles scaling and rightsizing so I’m not constantly monitoring the setup.

I know. It feels like only yesterday he was part of our lives. (I genuinely hope he's OK.)
