Octopus Gas meter readings stopped on App and Smart meter with credit showing on actual meter.

Hi guys, help please.
on Monday 15th my smart meter was merrily recording gas usage (Electric meter readings still working)
I have had no gas readings showing on the smart meter, APP on my iPad and android phone either.
To make sure the Gas meter hasn’t crashed I went out last night pressing the buttons.
gas meter reading working fine. Pressed the red button and it said credit £6.64. Just checked again credit amount £8.36.
I am on Direct Debit and several hundred £s in credit!
I managed to get through to what I would politely call a real Muppet at Octopus to explain my concerns….he kept asking if my App was working and telling me what my last meter was, if I want an up to date meter reading, I’ll look at the meter outside!
Have I been put on a pre-payment with my gas meter showing a credit amount that would account for smart meter readers to stop?
I have serious health issues and on the priority registers…. Not being able to monitor my gas usage during this cold weather is a cardinal sin by Octopus Energy.

    It's normal for a smart gas meter to show a running total cost for the billing period.
    You've not been switched to prepayment, it's just that there's a glitch in the smart meter communications system and it's stopped sending readings automatically.
    It will probably start working again but if it doesn't you'll have to submit manual readings just like having a dumb meter.

  • Thank you for your reply, I’ve never seen a £ figure on my gas meter before.
    Begs belief they want people to use Smart Meters, when we do monitor and control usage for personal cost and environment they can't provide working equipment or a trained customer services rep to effectively answer the questions..
  • Probably stupid question on my part….
    if it’s a running total why is it saying Credit bal as if that is the available amount? Should it not be a debit as a running total of what I’ve used and owe on next billing period?
  • Octopus got back to me really quickly.
    basically, leave the red button alone everything is working as should on that front and they are looking into why my readings aren’t registering on app and IDH. 
    Sorry for rant, when you rely on a little gadget and it stops working….
