Glad it is over? Exhausted?

What a day. First of all the guests were 3 hours late due to M25 accident. So stuck on the M25 that dil had to run up a hill for a pee. Followed by lots of other cross-legged souls

Ok, I turned the oven down and got over my panicky feelings because they turned up eventually. The meal was well and truly fantastic (ultra slow-cooked turkey) and was one of those occasions that carried on and on. The nibbles, the ham sandwiches, the endless hot and cold drinks. The wrapping paper, the games. Getting the bedding down

I managed to record corrie, eastenders and to the manor born for another day

Gosh yes, I am one of the ones who is glad yesterday is over. I was SO TIRED

Had a lovely day, not impressed with my turkey (5.4kg frozen Bernhard Mathews Turkey) there was not much meat on it. The Turkey crown i cooked two weeks ago (Aldi 2.3kg frozen turkey crown) was much nicer and had just as much meat. But we still had enough with left overs.

We all ate far too much at dinner and none of us could eat the goodies i had for tea.

My girls had a lovely time and we only switched the TV on when they went to bed at 8.30. Then we watched Only fools and horses (Batman and Robin one xmas one) and then went to bed happy but completely worn out.

Oh i forgot to mention my dishwasher stopped working so i had to wash all my pots up...what a day to break...but i was having a lovely day so i put the radio on and sang along to it while i washed up.

    Another really lovely christmas

We had a fantastic day. The children didn't wake up until nearly 8, when Owen knocked on our door and said (in Owen-ese) "Christmas". That was fantastic because it is the first time he has understood it's a special day rather than getting downstairs and seeing there are pressies (he is 8 1/2, and has Down Syndrome). We had to wake Jenny up! The presents were pretty successful, and we saw very little of Owen as he was playing his new computer games. I planned to eat at 2 and we sat down at 2.10, which was excellent. The meal was good, the children ate their turkey, liked the stuffing and also enjoyed the christmas pud! This was another first, other years we haven't all eaten together. In the evening we all watched Dr Who, then the kiddoes danced for a bit and went to bed, and mum and dad read some of their new books and listened to music. One of the best, and not exhausting or stressful at all thanks to careful planning.

It's now Boxing Day and I have to do a lot of work (a contract job, not work-work) and pack up for driving up to Scotland tomorrow. Only biggish fly in the ointment - the washing machine has stopped draining .... Hope it's an easy thing to fix, as Owen has only recently moved into pants and we go through several pairs of pants and a couple of pairs of trousers a day since he is not entirely reliable. At least his sheets were dry this morning (we don't have an outdoor washing line, so can't do any washing right now, unless we go to the laundrette).

we had a great day. decided that we bought the kids far too many toy's and bought far too much food. i did a simple yet yummy roast . he had roast beef and gammon , with spuds , carrtos , sprouts and cauli cheese. with pig's in blankets and yorkie's.

but i am really poorly. i been fighting a cold and yesterday i just about managed to keep going. however today i am struggling to get off sofa. hubby feeling ill , so he and our daughter ( age 4) is snuggled in sofa with duvet, our little boy (2.5 yr old) is sneezing loads but running arounf like a bluee !!! fly playing.

i am glad it is over in one way , as i did struggle to kep going. but i do love it. my in-laws stayed xmas eve, so they could be here when kids woke up. and despite feeling ill we did all have a great time. lot's of giggles , a smoothly planned dinner which turned out well. and kids enjoying what santa brought them.
  • Definitely exhausting  DS2 still awake at midnight on Christmas Eve. He's crying because he thinks if he doesn't get to sleep Father Christmas won't come. I'm thinking-if he doesn't sleep soon Father Christmas will be asleep. Finally managed to deposit full sacks in children's rooms at about 1.30 am, at which point dd woke up and began calling out that she was bored and could see something sticking out of her sack. Was just beginning to doze off at about 3 am when they all woke up and started banging doors and switching lights on and yelling 'I got High School Musical 2' and similar. At which point the Christmas spirit deserted me and I said if they didn't turn the lights off and go to sleep there would be no Christmas dinner as I hadn't had any sleep yet.

Finally got to sleep and woke at 7.30 3 hours later. Next year Father Christmas is going to write a letter saying he is getting too old to climb stairs, so can they leave their sacks downstairs ;)

So, I was rather knackered yesterday. It was a lovely day though and the kids loved their presents and dinner was delicious. I enjoyed the evening when the kids settled down really quickly and we didn't have to worry about waking them up.

Today is the best day though -no cooking to do as the fridge is stuffed with leftovers, cheese and chocolate. There is loads of alcohol -this year's damson gin and quince vodka has been a big success.

OH is taking the kids shopping later, I might go but prefer not to shop with my children really. DS2 seems to have £75!-he's been saving for a while plus gifts of money.
  • Get well soon jcr16 ((HUGS))

We had a lovely day. I had been panicking on Christmas Eve knowing this Christmas was going to be different to 'usual' and worried for my 16 year old (been a year of big changes).
Thanks to some wonderful advice on another thread, I managed to relax and allow the day to 'unfold', which it did and it turned out just fine - even better than I could have hoped.
There were 4 of us for scaled-down dinner, of free range chicken breasts (wonderful), stuffing, potatoes and veg. Took hardly any prep and no stress at all. My son and OH (not his dad - one of the changes he has been struggling to adjust to) spent some, unforced, time together and both enjoyed it. Best gift of the day!

  • We had a nice peacful christmas day. Dinner was lovely and all ate it. We watched the Simpsons movie that I bought the kids, and Dr Who. Then played monopoly.
The only fly in the ointment is my DS not being very gratful for the £100 I gave him towards buying a laptop. He seems to think I should change to AOL so he can get one quicker. Grrrr.
I am able to get on my own computer for a change as my DD is busy training her Nintendogs.
We are going to my sisters this evening.

    :D:D:D

Have been there so many years, but it does eventually get better. We woke up under our own steam at 7.30am yesterday for the first time in about 19 years and it was bliss. Mind you the eldest (22), who still gets the most excited, did admit that he only slept in a tad because he had been playing on his computer until 2.00am. Frankly I don't care so long as I was able to sleep.

Hope you can enjoy a lazy day today - everyone is entitled to one of those now and then.

We'd planned to go to DD1's for lunch, and then for DD2 and family to pop in after we got home. However, DH has a chest infection which is being slow to clear up so we ended up going to DD2 in the morning instead, so that when we got back from lunch DH would know he could just relax. Met our new DGD for the first time, and made huge fuss of DGS. Back home to collect a couple of dining chairs and the presents for DD1 and family! Lunch was delicious and DD1 and I drank too much Cava and Buck's Fizz! (I later fell asleep in front of Dr Who, which served me right  )

As we didn't have our Turkey yesterday I'm going to cook it today! (We'd already ordered it from the butcher's when DD! issued her invitation)

Bit of a mixed day really.

DD and her fiance came over on Christmas Eve. First year she's been away from home and I think she was finding it a bit of a strain having to "choose" which family to visit on Christmas Day. His family "won" this year!

However, I have been rotten ill for a week - definite chest infection and didn't feel well enough to even get myself to the doctors for some antibiotics, so just had to soldier on with it. DH rubbish in the kitchen, so all food preparation (and, as it turned out, clearing up and loading/unloading dishwasher  ) fell to me.

Had a three bird roast from Aldi on Christmas Eve. I cooked it and let it cool thoroughly the day before, then used my wonderful electric slicing machine to slice it all up. Wrapped enough meat for the meal (leaving enough for another meal) and put it in the steamer for an hour to heat moistly along with the veg. A treat pudding for the "kids" (youngest aged 15 lol) of a Vienetta for pudding.

Christmas Day was just DH, me and our two sons. Had a nice day although I loafed on the sofa and didn't get dressed all day :( . The boys were pleased with their presents, which was a relief. The pile of presents was HUGELY reduced compared to previous years, as I laid down the law and said there was no way I was going into another year with more debt (which I haven't - yay yay yay). We have been Guitar Hero'd out - both boys had them, one for the Wii and one for the PS2.

We had a turkey breast thing from Tesco, again cooked and cooled previously and sliced up with my wonderslicer. We ate half and kept half for another meal, had all the trimmings and lots of lovely veggies. I ended up going to bed at about 6pm - felt lousy and exhausted. (Amazing how lying around all day takes it out of you!).

Got up about 8.30pm and produced some sausage rolls, sandwiches, nibbly biscuits etc - still being "serenaded" by the racket that comes out of Guitar Hero (I am definitely getting old lol).

Today, we were supposed to be having a roast pork joint (already, as you might have guessed, cooked and sliced up) but we're sick of roast dinners by now :rotfl: :rotfl: so we're having cold meat and mum's home made chips with some salad.

Tomorrow we are bracing ourselves for the influx of the boys' friends - a houseful of loud teenagers. I think DH and I will have to take the dog out for a long walk :D

I dont have to do anything much Christmas-wise. Few presents/and the cards all round and thats about it.

Just pretty (deepdown) tired from the past year as a whole - full-time job/running a house/several sideline jobs!!
Have now dropped all except one of the sideline jobs - which I will see out the time I promised I would do it for, as they've treated me okay (so dont deserve to be "landed in it" looking for a replacement for me).

The dayjob is mentally very tiring - though basically an easy job of itself - its all the constant gossipy/bickering type atmosphere and the job insecurity.

Hence between my various jobs why I've turned a lot to the Internet for recreation in the last few months (keeping Hester in all those blogs to read:rotfl: ). But clearing the decks now a bit and money wont be such a worry - now the mortgage/debt has gone - so I wont be spending time anymore reworking the figures to try to get to financial freedom a bit sooner!:D

So - hopefully a more energetic New Year coming up for me.
