DRO

Options
I am after some advice, I am thinking of applying for a DRO due to being unable to repay the debt I owe. I do have a vehicle worth about £6000, the majority of the car was paid for in cash by my father in law. Does this still count as an asset worth more than £2000 or can i claim i do not own the majority of the vehicle, it is the only vehicle i have and i need it for work so need to try and keep it. Many thanks

Then say its your dads car, but you are the registered keeper.

The £2000 allowance for a car is non negotiable, if yours is worth 6k, and you say you are the owner, then you won`t qualify for a DRO.

Say its your dads, you will, so long as you meet the other criteria.

There may need to be some evidence that it's your Dad's. As you know, the registered keeper is not necessarily the owner.

I had a similar case where a family member was the keeper but I had a copy of the sales receipt and a page of my bank statement showing me paying for it. When she passed away this didn't form part of her estate - the car just came to me.
