Private car parking fine.

I inserted my correct registation number and paid £1.30 cash, the due amount. (on 6/11/23)The ticket machine printed out a receipt for a car with a completely different registration number ! ( The machines would not accept my cards). I appealed directly to the car park company and had a rejection which was not specific to my questions. I have now appealed to IAS , this was never signed for, but received by them on 15 Jan. It will be looked at, but I am not hopeful.  At an earlier stage I contacted a media station, and the reply from the owner of the car park implied that I had entered the wrong registration number ( COMPLETELY different to mine) and even suggested , that I might have been trying to avoid payment by using someone else's ticket !
If I am successful in my appeal- fine, but if not, what else can I do? I feel sure that if I was able to contact the owner/regitered keeper of the other car, it would support my case.
Help, please.

    It is not a fine.

    Which PPC?

Where did the alleged event occur? It may have cropped up here before.

Did you complain directly to the landowner? I'm not sure what you mean by a media station. Many landowners are part of the problem because they side with the PPC.

Did you also complain to your MP?

Having appealed to the PPC, and to the IAS (which this forum does not recommend) you are now in ignore mode unless you get a letter of/before claim or a court claim.

You will lose because IAS is not considered competent or independent (by MPs anyway) and it is being replaced by the Government. this year.  But it doesn't matter because you just ignore the daft £170 demands.  Come back if they try a court claim, which are easy to defend, and not scary.

  • Thank you, to both. I was ineligible to use POPLA as they needed a verification code and the parking company is not a member of the British Parking assocation. If my appeal is rejected( by IAS) which I suspect is likely , I will consult with my MP and look in to making a complaint to Trading Standards, whilst I keep in " ignore mode" .

I see from your pm that the PCN was cancelled. Nicely done!

Did they concede defeat at IAS?

  • A brief letter from IAS , saying due to further info,( presume mine!) they ( the Private car park) will no longer be pursuing the matter and the parking charge has been cancelled. ( I spent 3 and a half days preparing the iteration ! was very stressed). There will never be an admission to  their machines being faulty , but I was able to give other examples as well as mine, of what seemed to be the case( faulty machine).  I will be pleased to " help" any others who have wrongly been charged.

  • Hi again. Yes, will be pleased to do so . A lot depends upon the circumstances . One thing that I think people should do, is take a photo of everything possible at the time of payment and display. If one does enter a slightly wrong VRN, then it is worth paying again, entering correct VRN, It seems to me that private companies, will find ANY reason to say " notice was issued correctly". . Re the IAS,send as much "evidence" as possible, and challenge the Car park co.
On the negative side, if one paid by cash and no longer have the ticket -  will have to pay up, or ignore.
