I’m interested in Market volatility over the next wee while.

looked at my balances last night and my total was £425500.  I’ll post my totals now and again over the next while to see how things go!

In other news free electric chargers are working again at my work so I’ll make use of them again and direct saved funds to my ISA!
The next four years are going to be interesting for sure! :  )

Could you add the comma in future updates please, my eyesight is terrible and you either have forty two thousand or four hundred and twenty five thousand, I hope the latter for your sake! :  )

    @barnstar2077 - ofcourse I’ll add the comma

So let’s hope this is the start of proof that hanging in for the long term works when  the market becomes volatile 🤞

I’ve gone from £425,500 to £422,000.  It’s pretty hard not to emotionally react but must remember to think of the long term.
    Mortgage balance Feb 2015 start of MFW Journey-£245316.06/Aim to be mortgage neutral 2022 — Target for May 2024 14 Year Target Balance MF50 = £89,535 — Mortgage Balance £106, 000—Target for May 2024! £89,535

    Morning!

Today I have chosen my funds for my brand new work pension with my Perm job.

Ive chosen the below and interested to know what you think!

    💫 Global Equities (Passive) 80%
    💫 Property (Active) 10%
    💫 Diversified Assets (Active) 5%
    💫 Emerging Markets (Active) 5%

I have also set up from next month to salary sacrifice. The monthly contribution to pension will be just under £3,500, with about £850 of that contributed by the company.

Looking forward to doing some calcs!

    What falls under Diversified Assets?

Why property?  I didn't think commercial property had been doing very well since covid.

I think you need to stop looking so often - my pots are often up or down by 30k over a couple of days and as for the covid dip.....

Sounds like a higher level of risk considering the equity component.  I assume that the pot target you are aiming for at your planned retirement age requires the risk/potential reward you are taking?

@barnstar2077 I still need to have a look at the underlying. From speaking to other staff at the company the property fund is mostly made up of Health and social care properties rather than the likes of offices etc.  once I get the list I’ll properly analyse and post here.  It will be interesting to see what different people would choose and their attitude to risk.  Ive requested the info on the funds and can change my choices at any time.l so these were just initial selections to get it up and running until I get more info.

@michaels my whole idea is to show that there can be big dips with market movements.  My hope is that on my journey people with less financial experience, who are not used to the fluctuations that can happen, will gain confidence to hold on for the ride in a dip.

@Cus yes 80% equities is a risk but let’s hope for higher returns.  I know it’s not guaranteed. I have aims but I’m not really set on when I’ll retire. I’m more set on gaining financial freedom. I will derisk in the future but I think will use the cash flow ladder method for that.

Dare we ask what the charges are for the platform and funds?  I think vanguard have just reduced the charges on their global equities products.

Personally I am all for global equities.  I feel like they go up and down, but that over the long run they are the most predictable.

@michaels I’ll look at the charges once I get the info through I’m guessing that salary sacrifice will cover that as I’m not paying tax. Agree that vanguard is a good platform for low fees.

@barnstar2077 I will def stay 80 % Global equities and plan to use the cash flow ladder in retirement but when the time is right I might diversify to lower risk.  So really I just need to work out what I want to invest the 20% in when I find out more info.
