. . . . . I've not done so but have e-mailed them back asking a load of questions. I'm also aware of the warning about Stewart and Williams issued by the Financial Conducts Authority and I'm also puzzled as to why they haven't mentioned my identical holding.

    I'll keep you informed.
They've 'phoned again - same number and a third Hispanic voice. They've received my e-mail, sent to what appears to be the correct e-mail address for Stewart and Williams and I've insisted they reply by e-mail. In the meantime I've sent a message to Ferrovial to see what they have to say.

What would Ferrovial have to say other than not to engage with scammers?

That made me smile, as I remember my late mother's reaction when she got yet another double glazing salesman phone her (they were bad in the 80's) wanting to speak to her mother who had recently passed on.

"Oh, you want to speak to Mrs ***? I'll just open her coffin and see what she thinks - pause -  no she's not answering I don't think she's interested."

She didn't get any more cold calls afterwards.

We have a completely flat roofed house and that stops loft insulation cold callers in their tracks!

It's a scam or, at the very least, an unsolicited (and therefore unwanted) attempt from an unauthorised company who are trying to either make you do something you almost-certainly won't want to be doing or sell you something you shouldn't be buying.

Only scammers or unauthorised companies will contact you personally out of the blue about financial matters - no legitimate, credible company works in that way and any that do don't warrant your time. All that engaging with them will do is bump you right up the list of possible victims unfortunately, because getting back to them now gives them a 'way in'.

My advice would be to stop any further communication with them, block all email addresses and phone numbers and be wary about further contact from any similar companies.

I was phoned today purporting to be someone from New York (not a NY phone number though) with the same scam.  I had been a BAA shareholder but know that my holding was bought out when the Ferrovial takeover happened - sp the scammers have obviously got hold of an old shareholders' register.  Just to let you know that this scam is still doing the rounds
