Keyboard & mouse randomly not working.

Tonight I turned my PC on only to find that I couldn't enter my password as the keyboard wasn't working. Neither was the mouse (both wired).
I restart the PC & the keyboard should illuminate but doesn't. This takes me to a screen saying the PC will turn off in 15 seconds as it hasn't found a keyboard. I jiggle the cable & the keyboard lights up but then the PC turns off.
I start the PC again, the keyboard lights up & I'm able to get in to Windows.
I go about my business but then after say 30mins of being on the PC the lights cut out on the keyboard & once again neither my keyboard nor my mouse are working - they seem to work or not work at the same time.
I jiggle the cable again but nothing happens. I have to press reset on the PC case.
As it restarts the keyboard illuminates once again & obviously as you're reading this it's now working.
There's been no movement in this room. Nothing can disturb anything in this room other than myself & I haven't caught any cabling. My PC is in a box room so it's basically just the PC room. Where the cables run, you can't walk past (so can't accidentally pull the cables - not possible).
Any idea what's going on here? This has literally started happening tonight, never before.

Borrow a keyboard and mouse from a friend or neighbour for 15 minutes and see if they work.I don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!2

Have you checked inside the case for dust build up?
Tried different usb ports?
Are you plugging them into the motherboard ports, case ports or a hub?
Have you ran a virus sweep?
Tried a different mouse/keyboard? Or tried yours in a different pc?
Lots of things can cause this issue but if both keyboard and mouse are stopping at the same time suggests a mothboard/daughterboard issue
Oh check all connections in your pc too0 -
ASUS Mobo. Can't give you the model as I'm at work.
Windows 10
Direct in to Mobo ports.
Tried different Mobo ports when it happens but that doesn't get it working either.
Dust is doubtful but not impossible. I tend to keep on top of that although as I was ill through December (when I usually give it a blow out) it never got done this year.
No other keyboard/mouse to try although as they both go at the same time I suspect it's more the PC side than the peripheral side.
And with the time this was noticed and the time I needed to hit the sack, I had no time for a virus scan.0 -

Could be defective ram too thinking about it, do you have a separate graphics card?
You could try a live boot of Linux and see if the issue recreates itself , at least that way you will know where the problem is0 -
