Wife on my insurance, but doesn't actually drive often.

Car insurance coming up for renewal. My wife has always been on my car insurance (her licence is valid) as a named driver. She doesn't actually need to drive my car, but also it is always nice to have the option for her to drive if required for any reason. She does not currently have her own car.
Is it ok to keep her on my insurance as a named driver?

Yes, NDs can be someone who regularly uses the vehicle or someone that just may need to in an emergency0

Absolutely. I'm in the same situation as you. My partner has been on my insurance for over 15 years but unless I'm physically unable to drive then I'm the only one driving my car!

If you take her off they will almost definitely increase your premium.0

It's fine. By adding someone as a named driver you are only saying that you want them to be covered to drive by the policy. You're not making any declarations about how often, or even whether, they drive it in practice.
It's completely different from the situation where the insurer asks who is the MAIN driver if a cat - in that case if you claim that you are the main driver whereas actually your teenage son usually drives it you are making a false declaration to the insurer - and that is what you can land you in serious trouble.
(If you're still worried, get her to drive to the end of the street and back one day, then there is no doubt that she really does drive the car. But there really is no need to.)0
