Budget laptop, ideally under £500

My last laptop was a MacBook, which experienced the oh-too-common motherboard of doom failure. That was several years ago, and since then I’ve relied on my phone and iPad and still do in the main.
However, in my retirement I’ve become secretary of a couple of groups, and am struggling to do the admin on my iPad. I don’t want to spend a fortune (so another MacBook is definitely out of the question!), but would consider paying up to £500, possibly a bit more, for something reliable that will last me a good few years. I don’t need anything fancy. I don’t do gaming, don’t need masses of storage, just need something that will have Word, excel etc. I’m not bothered about super lightweight as I won’t be taking it out and about.
I’d be grateful for any suggestions!
