Winter fuel payment to late husband

I have received a winter fuel payment on behalf of my late husband who died very recently. I know he was alive at the qualifying period and is entitled to it but my question is does this have to go in his estate to pay towards his outstanding credit card bill or can I use it for the fuel bills.? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Does the card company expect to be paid? Not all will insist following a death and might write off the amount. Best to talk to their bereavement team to find out what they expect.
