My general understanding was to never keep more than 85k in a single institution as I wouldn't be protected in the event if Financial difficulties by the institution above this amount.
In my case I hold vanguard funds purchased and held within the Fidelity platform,
So if either Vanguard or Fidelity were to get into financial trouble (not poor fund performance) would my holdings above 85k be safe?
The difference with investments is explained together with the answer to your question in the previous posts.

Good point. Vanguard are unusual for mainstream fund houses in that respect but it could apply to a small number of others as well.GeoffTF said:
That is true only if the funds are UK domiciled. A majority of the Vanguard OEICs marketed in the UK are domiciled in the Republic of Ireland, but that is not something to worry about.dunstonh said:Each OEIC/UT has £85k per fund house
I must admit, on our research filters, we tend to remove funds that are not domiciled in the UK. That eliminates a lot of Vanguard funds. However, Vanguard funds are frequently overpriced nowadays compared to comparable alternatives in the mainstream sectors.
In reality, its a non-issue if you stick to mainstream and physical trackers.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only.
