Sheffield Training and Enterprise Council - missing pension

Options
Does anyone know anything about the TECs and what happened to the pensions after they transferred to Learning and Skills Council. I cant find anything that exists. On the pension finder Gov.uk the company doesnt even exist.
My pension is lost?

TEC staff transferred under the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations, 1981 (TUPE) to the Learning and Skills Council and joined the Principal Civil Service Pension Scheme (PCSPS) unless they chose to opt out. The Department for Education and Skills is ensuring that every member of the various TEC pension schemes, whether money purchase or final salary, has been granted their full statutory rights in relation to transfer values from their scheme. It has also worked to ensure that those transferred have been treated fairly and consistently, securing a range of flexibilities within PCSPS which will benefit the pension arrangements of many transferees.

The transfer value of a pension is dependent upon the available assets within the scheme and funding decisions made by the employer and/or the individual. This has meant that many former TEC staff will be able to secure year-for-year transfer values in PCSPS, while some will secure more than year-for-year and others less.

What documentation do you have about your pension?

Have you obtained a state pension forecast?

Try SAR to HMRC for your NI records

  • Hi - thanks for this. Ive already seen the statement and contacted Civil Service Pensions - they said there is no record of a transfer. I contacted a colleague who seems to remember they may have received some compensation. I never received anything or a statement. A lot of my colleagues left the TEC to other jobs - I transferred to LSC. Maybe thats why I didnt receive compensation. I dont know where to go with this...its like my pension never existed.
  • Ive also contacted HMRC - they said there is no record.

    I transferred to LSC.

    This?

Are you sure that your pension wasn't transferred to LSC?

Does your state pension forecast show a COPE?
  • No it definitely didnt transfer - ive emailed civil service a few times. And called HMRC who said it wasnt a contracted out pension.
  • I also rang local government pensions who know nothing. My colleague is trying to see if he can find out more but it was back in the 90'/early2000s and he received  compensation so probs doesnt have much info. He said he seems to remember the name equitable life (horror) but cant be sure.
  • Thanks for the booklet - there seems to be a number in there - if it still exists I'll try calling next week. Thanks so much. Really appreciate your advice. More helpful than anyone else I contacted.

Do you have any dates (rough ones) of when you joined/left your particular TEC, please?

I've just tried the pension tracing service using 'Sheffield Training and Enterprise Council': https://www.findpensioncontacts.service.gov.uk/find-frontend/employer/eyJ2YWx1ZSI6ImIyNWNlYzAxIiwiaXYiOnsidHlwZSI6IkJ1ZmZlciIsImRhdGEiOlsyMTUsMTAwLDc3LDgwLDI1NSwyNDksMTQzLDIxNSw5Myw2MSwxMzEsMTM0LDc0LDE4MCwxOTksNDFdfX0=

Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

Looking again, the LSC of the booklet is Legal Services not Learning and Skills, so not helpful - apologies.

Learning and Skills  Council was abolished in 2010.

You don't appear to have received a great deal of help from HMRC - a formal SAR request might yield a more helpful response.

Just received a huge pile of paperwork.... 175 pages double-sided. Amazing amount of information, although parts of it require a good memory (e.g. the list of employers isn't the full name, but 'how your employer was known to us' - a couple of initials or the first part of a word, so ideal for puzzle lovers with only vague memories of their own employment history!).

There's a full earnings history, which might be useful to anyone who could have a right to a higher tax free lump sum than 25% and needs to confirm their earnings to the pension provider concerned.

What makes really interesting reading is the Scheme Membership section at the back of the pack. There's a complete history of all the pension schemes to which I've belonged/contributed - including their reference numbers. Anyone trying to track down one of the many rebate-only Appropriate Personal Pensions***  available from 1988 on would do well to apply for their NI breakdown covering the years when they think they might have taken out such a policy and look for what I hope will prove to be the magic words:

  • I started with the TEC around 1992 - transferred to LSC's I think 2003/and left in 2006.
I've tried Robson and Salustro (who operate under RSM and said they have a vague record of dealing with TECs something - but nothing concrete.
    My local MP
    HMRC
    Local GVT Pension Scheme
    The Civil Service Pension Scheme
Pension Ombudsman (who said I must complain to the scheme (which seems not to exists)
I have a small Civil Service Pension Scheme from my time with LSC but nothing from before that date or showing that the TEC was transferred.
I suffered bereavement before I left the LSC so memory a little vague.
