Delay on Repair/Write Off on Car Insurance

Options
Hi

My car was damaged by flooding on 27/12/2023 and taken by my insurer. Since then I've chased on several occasions and been told that its awaiting assessment.

They've said I can't get a courtesy car as I'm only entitled while its being repaired. I can't get a settlement offer as I'm only entitled if its written off. Neither of which has been determined as it hasn't been assessed as repairable or written off yet.

Is there any limit on how long they can leave everything in limbo while they're waiting to assess the car?

Thanks in advance.

No time limit however they will expect to be reasonable about these things... the problem is your damage was done when most garages are closed for the feastive period and will now be in the annual backlog that every year has. "Reasonable" will factor in the time of year as insurers cannot force garages to decide not to close etc.
