Scottish P not adhering to quarterly billing

I found that anytime there was a price increase or decrease, the bill was never accurate as they guessed the meter reading at day of price change.
I now phone with a meter reading, close to day of price change to make sure it's accurate. I got a bill around Nov time as there was a price change in Oct, I think (so gave a reading) then got the usual Dec one and now another in Jan, when I sent a meter read for the 01/01/24 price change. The woman I spoke with asked if I wanted a bill or just wanted it logged on system. I said to just log onto system and not issue a bill but they did send out a bill. If I'm on quarterly billing, am I not able to send a meter reading without triggering extra bills? I complained but was told - tough (different words used).

That is to be expected when you don't have a smart meter.

Quarterly billing is quaint and old fashioned nowadays.  Most are moving or are already on monthly.     However, irrespective of the frequency, does it matter?  You use is no different, nor is the cost.  If you put accuracy as a priority, then switch to a smart meter.
