Unwanted Gifts....

Not sure if anyone here can help or if I have posted this in the right area but like many this year I have received two unwanted gifts.

One is a top from Matalan which I will never wear the other is a pair of gloves from M&S. I have several pairs of snowboarding gloves so will not use these ones.

What I want to know is what are the shops' policy on taking an unwanted gift back as I have no receipt. I am not expecting a cash refund and would be happy for a voucher or exchange. I would like to know. if anyone knows.

If I can't do that I guess I have 2 items of Christmas shopping for Christmas 2008.

Thanks

KD

M&S will give you an exchange or giftcard for the current selling price of the item.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • Thanks - I dont know what the item was purchased for in the first place so I am not worried so much about how much I get..

How about Matalan? I have never shopped there and do not have a card.

  • Hi! Yes it says you can return items without a receipt. I have been told that you need a card to go in Matalan and I am not a Matalan card holder and to be honest don't really want a card as it isn't anywhere I would make a bee line for to buy anything.

The Matalan card is free and can be obtained when instore. If you just make sure you tick the normal promotion and 3rd party boxes, you can use your card for the exchange, then cut it up and never hear from them again.

Alternatively borrow a friends or relatives card - perhaps the person who gave you the top? :rotfl: :rotfl:
  • I've bought from matalan without a card, I just went to the till and paid for the item no problem I wasnt asked for a card or anything.

You can buy without a card - the card just gives you more special offers and better prices. I've bought before without a card and now have one. So i would assume you can return items without a card and they would probably give you a credit note
