SEG and FIT
I have 3.9KWH of solar installed in 2019 for which I get FIT paid on a deemed export of 50%. I am considering installing more panels and batteries. I know I need a DNO, but if I this is forthcoming I assume I would be paid under the SEG scheme for surplus electricity fed to the grid. However I do not understand how anyone can tell where the energy is coming from . I assume they just work out the SEG payments from the smart meter....but if so that would include some energy from the original panels. The installers of the original system assure me I can get both payments as the systems will be "independent" ....but how can they be? Thank you from a confused person.

FIT is paid based on your generation meter. SEG is paid based on your export meter - which in most cases is a SMETS2 smart meter. You should not connect any new solar panels to the generation meter, so that it's only measuring what you're entitled to FIT payments on..
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
You would probably be better off changing your deemed export to SEG if you move it to Octopus.1

I think you are absolutely right, you can only measure your total export from both sets of panels. But you can elect to be paid for measured export instead of deemed export from your old panels. You will need a smart meter to measure your total export. Octopus give a good rate for your exported electricity but you're not obliged to go with them.Reed1

I would probably go for Octopus flux if you have battery(ies), but I don't know much about FIT. however if you old panels can be wired alongside/feeding to the same inverter as your new ones then flux would my choice.🍺 😎 Still grumpy, and No, Cloudflare I am NOT a robot 🤖BUT my responses are now out of my control they are posted via ChatGPT or the latest AI0

Surely I should comment when someone gives bad advice, even if that was just through ignorance? That is sharing knowledge.
My "silver bullet", such as it is, was made in an earlier response. The OP will have to keep their new system completely separate from the old one and will have to switch the old system to metered rather than deemed export.Reed1
