As said I do not know the procedure. Do not agree they are being reasonable and will be taking this further.Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!0

From the care home's POV...they have taken over the care of someone who clearly needs it, this care had to be arranged by the friend (or cleaner, however you want to label them) who has been caring for them and doing their shopping etc. Your father has said he did not want you there and you are saying you had no knowledge of this person...so from the care home's point of view it may look like you have not been involved in your father's life for some time and are only coming in to try and protect an inheritance - just to be clear, I am not suggesting that, just pointing out how it may seem to an outsider.
If you did not know about this person, who did you think was looking after your father and doing his shopping etc?2 -

Thanks Al for the clarification. Online I was not sure whether they were a company or EHCH was a concept. I saw something about NHS England so assumed wrongly.

What is/was your relationship with your father? How often did you see them? Do you have an accurate view of their capability and needs?0

Hi Boo. I suppose I will have to explain on here as I am obv. aware of some comments and reading between the lines that some people think I have not bothered with this poor old man. Truth is he is/was an extremely violent abusive father both physically and mentally to his four children. We went though hell growing up and my three brothers are all dead now having led miserable and short lives with mental health problems and all that entails. Sorry but I blame him. I have had to deal with and pay for two of my brothers' funerals as my father said it was not his responsibility. Just showing an example here. I did not see him often at all but other relatives out of duty kept in touch with him and I was advised. I am not saying that the council should not get the expenses back they have incurred. I am now aware through this forum about power of attorney etc. Yes I understand he can do what he wants and I have no rights. However I am being lied to and have been given conflicting information by the social worker and the 'carer'. The care home manager says he does not have mental capacity, the social worker says he does and she is taking him to a solicitors to write his will and they are trying to get him to agree to power of attorney through, I presume, the council. The 'carer' said she called on him twice a week in a caring role at his house, he went into a care home after a mild stroke. He's been 4 weeks in there. The 'carer' had his wallet and changed the locks on his house and had the new keys. Now she's saying she not a carer but a 'friend' and she is down as his next of kin. So I now believe the social worker is from a private company working for the council. I thank everyone for their help on here as I hadn't a clue what was going on. The practical advice is most welcome but personal judgements not so.

I wasn't trying to be judgemental, I hope it didn't come across that way. The situation is very difficult given the history0
