Advice on credit card available limits

Options
Hi everyone I’m after some advice on managing credit cards

ive Recently payed all my debt off bar 1300 that will be gone in a few months

since then my card providers have upped my credit limits to around 22k in total over 4 cards

I’ve got a loan that’s being payed on time everytime and a very account with 3500 available that I pay on time every time if I get anything

my main question is would there be any benefit lowering my available money or am I best just to leave it as I won’t be using any of it apart from maybe lending 2k via a money transfer offer to help with moving house very soon but apart from that I won’t be using them at all really unless a shock large bill happens for my car or something

any other tips ? Am I best using them to say buy fuel and pay it off the following month after the statement has been posted ? What’s the best way to manage stuff to keep my score ( 892 on Experian at the moment ) in a good shape for future lending for good interest rates etc

thanks in advance for any advice yous can offer

Leave it unless you don't trust yourself. Just use the cards normally and clear in full.

And ignore the Experian score (and any other from the CRAs).  You want a good history, not a high pretend score.

I like to keep things simple and I believe this demonstrates responsibility with credit.  I have just three credit cards - Amex, an Avios Mastercard for when Amex is not accepted, and a travellers/foreign card.
I keep the credit limit high enough that I can afford any unforeseen expenditure, but no higher than £15k on each card so that it doesn't impact my mortgage affordability when getting a new mortgage.
I pay off each credit card in full by direct debit.  As you already have a relatively good credit score then I'd suggest doing this too if  you can.
  • As above, ignore your score, it's just a meaningless marketing gimmick produced the the CRAs, and is not used - or even seen - by any lender.
In order to build/maintain a good credit history (which is what really counts), just use the cards routinely for regular, planned, budgeted spending (food, petrol, whatever).  Wait for the statement to arrive and always pay in full (Direct Debit is the simplest way).
