Outlook mail items missing

I have backed up my Outlook mail folder and on reinstalling it - and restoring my mail - I am unable to view all of my mail - most (95%) are apparently in another folder (not a BACK UP folder)

They are only visible when I search for them (under date / word content etc)

it appears that they are being auto archived to the C : drive but I have no options to turn this off

Any suggestions ?

There is a BAK file on the C: drive - size 653,000 KB but how do I restore this to Outlook itself, so I can read the emails ?
