Buying Bitcoin

  • I am surprised at the limits that you stated for First Direct, after selling investment property on several occasions I have transferred £100,000 to HL numerous times in a single transaction. It is one of the things that I particularly like about FD, my wife has had many issues over the years with various other banks trying to do the same thing.
Slightly off topic, but I've been with First Direct since the early 1990s, and until the past couple of years they were brilliant.  I sold a business 5 or 6 years ago and several millions were transferred into our current account, and FD didn't bat an eyelid (I had called them to say it was on its way).

But now they're just as crap as everyone else.  Long waits to get through.   Transactions stopped and a need to contact a fraud team off-shored, with poor line quality talking to people whose first language is not English with all that implies for comprehension.  TT and foreign currency teams who seem to go home at 4.  They had a secure message system through which you could send non-urgent messages which has been abandoned in favour of an AI bot which of course can't ever answer anything, and there's often no humans to pick up the chat ....

I'd switch but no-one else is any better I'm sure.  I'm so sad that one brand that really used to be so excellent is now settling for ovine mediocrity.

I would say I’ve heard of most exchanges in UK and never come across bittylicious. Website looks terrible from the 3 mins I looked at it from my phone. IOM
based, which is fine in itself.
    Hey, that's my website!

Yes, the website does look terrible. It's looked pretty much the same for the almost 11 years Bittylicious has been around. We don't spend anything on marketing, and have had more important things to do than update how our website looks (plus, I think we'll upset our userbase who agree it's not pretty, but love the super-basic nature of it).

Anyway, don't judge a book by its cover (although I do admit, first impressions should encourage you do further research).

    Haha nice!

What kind of volumes are you doing? And how's that changed over the years? Obviously massive increases during the various bull markets.

We've just bought a crypto firm in the IoM, you'll likely know them I think.

I've never been to the Island but should be going this year, probably for the TT

Hate to even suggest it as they are the most unethical of  institutions on the planet, but what about doing it via Revolut?
    Why are they unethical?
I'd like to know the answer too! :) Why are Revolut considered unethical?

@valiant24 I know you didn't ask for it, but I'm curious.

If you're intending to purchase 'tens of thousands' worth of Bitcoin (BTC), how did you decide the amount you will invest?

A small allocation to BTC amongst a diversified portfolio for an investor that has a sufficient tolerance to risk is acceptable, but many BTC investors fail on one or both of those points. I hope you're not one of those.

Edit: Also, are you intending to hold the BTC in a hot or cold storage wallet?

@valiant24 's lack of response does worry me, does OP truly know what they're doing by purchasing bitcoin? I hope so.

For those who haven't spotted it yet, this thread is a year old, and has only been resuscitated by the last three posts, although it would appear that OP is still active on the forum....
