Open new account

My husband and I have had a joint account for many years.
For personal reasons I would now prefer to have my salary paid into a separate account and to transfer my share of the bills into the joint account.
I’d like to be able to set up DDs for my personal expenses from my sole account.

Can anyone advise and recommend suitable accounts? Would it make more sense to apply for an account with our existing bank?
Thank you
Thank you

Seems unlikely that anyone can offer any meaningful advice without significantly more detail about your requirements and preferences, as any current account would fit what you've shared so far! Your unspecified existing bank may be easiest but are you prioritising incentives, interest, apps, branches, customer service, etc, etc?1

Thank you, I haven’t set up a sole account in over 35 years, I was just wondering if there are any restrictions in the type of account that can be held in addition to an active joint account?0

Always good to have accounts with more than one institution. Short of that hard to say what is best.
A bank like starling will allow you to create buckets for your outgoing personal expenses. For example create one that you fund for all of your DD's which you allocate to that bucket. Means you can then ring fence that money. It is also one of the top backs in the annual surveys for customer service.
Chase as an alternative do more on the incentives side.
Neither have branches though, but you can use the Post Office for some services.
Top for customer service on the traditional side is First Direct, they are part of HSBC so you can use their branches.1 -
As above First Direct are great.
Been with them over 25 years.
The best thing with them is if you have a problem one call generally sorts out your issue.
No going to a branch and signing in blood, 😜 or offering your first born.
Have I had issues with them yes, also with every other bank I hold accounts with.
It’s just FD solve the issue quickly and give compensation for my trouble.
You want DD or SO set up just call them and they set them up no problem.
One call sorts all.

Setup an account with your existing bank, transfer it for a cash bonus when there is an offer, simple as that
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

^^^ That's exactly what I would suggest. Easiest is to set up a new bank account with your existing bank.
It's likely there will be some new switching deals coming along so you would be able to benefit from a switch bonus.
The other advice would then also be fulfilled- don't have all your eggs in one basket : from time to time there have been IT issues with different banks & some folk have been unable to access their funds.Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!
