ASDA - aldi & lidl price match. Thoughts?

Thoughts on the asda price a thing asda and lidl? 

Seems like there's no easy way to see what's being matched on the grocery site / app, there's just a pdf with the comparisons

I shop in Aldi and Sainsbury's (both stores in close proximity to home). I go to Sainsbury's first and buy the things that are on my list that clearly show they are price matched to Aldi. Then I buy any items that I need that know Aldi don't stock (for example, certain herbs and spices).

Then I go to Aldi and finish my shop. For instance, they never have any price matched eggs in my Sainsbury's.

I think this would work with Asda. The difference would be that there is an advertised list of the price matched items in Sainsburys online.

I saw the ad this evening - annoying!

Eta: I think this would sway me away from Aldi to Asda, as the BLC provides an additional incentive.

It's far less user friendly than Sainsbury's, but there is a complete list here:

That does help! Its not as long as I thought it would be, but a quick word search shows me where I will be quids in at Asda.

This Aldi Price Match is getting tiresome now

As one of the faster/highest levels of inflation supermarkets, Aldi have increased their prices so much on most things, that Tescos, Asda and Sainsburys know the prices in Aldi are now that high they can 'match' Aldi prices without it affecting their profits

And I used to do all our shopping in Aldi at that. Not no more

I'll still be doing some of my shopping at Aldi. I think they are VFM on most things. 

What I used to do was do my shop in Aldi first. Over the years that's risen to 90+% of what I need. Then I'd stop off in Sainsburys for items Aldi didn't stock. 

Recently I've been starting in Sainsburys with the Aldi price matched items. I particularly like the fact that they sell loose veg like carrots, onions, broccoli etc so can buy the amount I need without packaging. Then I go to Aldi for the rest.

Fortunately I have the time to go to two shops and they are close together so no excess travel. 

What I won't do (which is what the mainstream supermarkets want us to do) is be lured in by the price match and then buy my whole shop there for convenience but at extra cost.

The latest Aldi ad suggests prices have been slashed. Whether that is true or not I won't know until I step inside a store!

I agree that Aldi prices are high now, noticed in the past 18months some of their prices have risen by 100%, pure greed. Also notice lately that their best before dates on a lot of products are shorter than they used to be, whether they can buy from the wholesalers' cheaper because of this, I don't know. They have definitely gone downhill in the past couple of years.

There's no doubt a commercial drive behind this...but pure greed? Less so than the other supermarkets I think. If anything, that other supermarkets are offering to price match Aldi across multiple lines suggests Aldi might be holding price inflation back to a degree.

I agree @Rosa_Damascena. I'd also congratulate them on the fact that they introduced the Super 6 and wonky items of ruit and veg when other supermarkets used junk food as loss leaders.

When I get time, I'll compare the cost of the part of my Aldi shop (the things I chose not buy in Sainsburys because they weren't price matched) this week to see how that works out.

ETA - My Aldi shop was £29.61.

 I checked the Sainsburys website and compared prices as carefully as I could with basic Sainsburys own brand alternatives. It wasn't straightforward as I had to go back to price per kg because of differing package sizes.

I'd saved £7.61 on this small shop which makes Sainsburys about 25% more expensive than Aldi for my choices.
